China will stage yet another major world sporting event, with Shanghai winning the right to hold the 2011 world swimming championships.

Shanghai, which hosted 2006 short course world championships, beat out Doha, Qatar, to hold the 14th edition of the swimming worlds.

It is the first time a Chinese city will host a world swimming championships, and the second time for an Asian host. Japan hosted the 2001 championships in Fukuoka.

FINA World Aquatics Convention

The 2nd FINA World Aquatics Convention will take place in the Congress Center of the World Trade Center Moscow 29th October to 1st November, building on the success of the inaugural event which took place in 2010 in Punta del Este, Uruguay.

It is my great pleasure to introduce the 2nd FINA World Aquatics Convention, to be held from October 29-November 1, 2012 in the exciting city of Moscow (RUS).

I consider that the development of FINA’s 202 National Federations is the main tool on creating a solid basis for the progress for our sports. Our Members must feel part of a strong organisation, FINA, with the aim of organising great FINA events as Aquatic Festivals, where the world will enjoy the great stars in our five disciplines.
